Soyuz TM-20 / TM-21 Flown MIR Cover – Signed by Six Spacefarers – Hand-Certified Flown by Vladimir Dezhurov – Jacques Bracke Collection
A rare flown Mir space station cover associated with Soyuz TM-20 and Soyuz TM-21, hand-signed by six astronauts and cosmonauts from this pivotal period of U.S.–Russian cooperation: Alexander Viktorenko, Yelena Kondakova, Valeri Polyakov, Vladimir Dezhurov, Gennady Strekalov, and Norman Thagard.
Soyuz TM-20 carried Viktorenko and Kondakova to Mir in 1994, while Polyakov was already aboard completing his record-setting 438-day mission, the longest single human spaceflight in history. Soyuz TM-21 then launched on March 14, 1995, carrying Dezhurov, Strekalov, and NASA astronaut Norman Thagard, who became the first American to launch aboard a Russian spacecraft and the first American to complete a long-duration residency aboard Mir.
Thagard’s mission became a cornerstone of the Shuttle-Mir program and directly preceded the historic STS-71 mission, when Space Shuttle Atlantis docked with Mir for the first time in June 1995 and returned Thagard, Dezhurov, and Strekalov to Earth.
The cover is further distinguished by Vladimir Dezhurov’s handwritten certification confirming that it was flown, providing important direct mission provenance.
Provenance: From the personal collection of renowned astrophilatelist Jacques Bracke.
An outstanding artifact linking Polyakov’s endurance record, Norman Thagard’s pioneering Soyuz flight, and the historic first Shuttle-Mir docking—three defining milestones in the development of international human spaceflight.
