A classic and highly desirable image from NASA’s Gemini program, depicting Richard F. Gordon Jr. during his historic Gemini 11 spacewalk, one of the most recognizable EVA photographs of the pre-Apollo era.

Offered here is a beautiful 8 x 10 inch glossy photograph showing Gordon outside the Gemini 11 spacecraft during his September 1966 mission — an image that has become especially popular among collectors and is often associated with Gordon’s famous “Space Cowboy” nickname.

The photograph has been personally hand-signed by Richard Gordon, who also added an attractive handwritten annotation, giving the piece considerably more character and collector appeal than a simple signature alone.

Gordon flew as Pilot of Gemini 11, alongside Commander Charles “Pete” Conrad. The mission achieved a then-record orbital altitude of more than 1,300 kilometers and included two EVAs by Gordon. His first spacewalk proved extremely demanding, illustrating just how difficult extravehicular activity remained before NASA perfected EVA techniques during the later Gemini missions.

The dramatic photographs of Gordon working outside the spacecraft became some of the defining visual records of the Gemini program and remain among the most sought-after signed images of his career.

Gordon later served as Command Module Pilot of Apollo 12, remaining in lunar orbit aboard Yankee Clipper while Pete Conrad and Alan Bean descended to the Moon. He was subsequently selected as backup commander of Apollo 15 and was widely expected to command a later lunar mission before the Apollo program was curtailed.

This example is particularly attractive because it originates from a private signing conducted in the 1990s and retains its original TheSpaceSource AVD Certificate of Authenticity sticker on the reverse.
