Flown Cover – commemorating Boeing Starliner Boe-CFT Crew Flight Test

Docking: June 6, 2024 | Undocking: September 6, 2024
Signed by 7 ISS Crew Members Including Boe-CFT Astronauts Wilmore & Williams

This is a rare flown cover commemorating the historic Boeing Starliner Crew Flight Test (Boe-CFT)—the first crewed mission of the Boeing CST-100 Starliner spacecraft. Flown aboard the International Space Station, the cover is canceled on key mission dates and bears autographs from seven astronauts connected to this extraordinary and technically complex mission.

Mission Background – A Historic and Unprecedented Flight

Launched on June 5, 2024, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, the Boe-CFT mission carried NASA astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita Williams to the International Space Station aboard the Boeing Starliner, marking a major milestone for NASA's Commercial Crew Program and Boeing’s spacecraft development efforts.

Originally scheduled as a short-duration mission with a return on June 14, the flight faced a serious technical setback: thruster malfunctions during docking approach. Though Starliner successfully docked with the ISS on June 6, the thruster issues led to an extended on-orbit investigation lasting over two months. By September, NASA concluded it was unsafe to return the crew aboard Starliner, opting instead to send the spacecraft back uncrewed, which it accomplished successfully with a landing at White Sands Space Harbor on September 7, 2024.

Wilmore and Williams eventually returned to Earth on March 18, 2025, aboard SpaceX Crew-9, making this one of the most unusual crew return scenarios in spaceflight history.
