A highly collectible “West in Space” presentation folder, personally hand-signed by German astronaut Hans Schlegel.
Issued in 1993, the folder contains two original special-edition telephone cards, each retaining its full 6 Deutsche Mark value. The set reflects the strong public interest in German human spaceflight during the early 1990s and offers an attractive combination of astronaut memorabilia, telecommunications history and space-themed philately.
Hans Schlegel flew aboard Space Shuttle Columbia on STS-55, the second German Spacelab mission, and later returned to space aboard Atlantis on STS-122, during which he participated in the installation of ESA’s Columbus laboratory on the International Space Station.
The folder and both phonecards remain in excellent condition, making this an appealing and well-preserved signed collectible from an important period in German space history.
