APRIL 3, 2026 — THE GUS GRISSOM CENTENNIAL

Virgil Ivan “Gus” Grissom was born on April 3, 1926, in Mitchell, Indiana.

Tragically, on January 27, 1967, Grissom, Edward White II and Roger Chaffee were killed when fire swept through their Apollo spacecraft during a launch-pad test at Cape Kennedy. The accident led to a major redesign and safety review of the Apollo spacecraft before crewed flights resumed.
