Mission Significance:
Launched July 8–23, 1994, STS-65 was the second International Microgravity Laboratory (IML-2) mission, conducting more than 80 experiments in materials science, biotechnology, combustion science, and life sciences. Chiaki Mukai’s historic flight was a milestone for Japan’s human spaceflight program and international cooperation aboard the Space Shuttle.
