Flown STS-122 Columbus Sticker — Numbered 291/500, Signed by Hans Schlegel
Offered here is a flown STS-122 Columbus mission sticker, measuring approximately 5 x 5 inches, individually numbered 291/500. The sticker was issued by EADS and was officially flown aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis during the STS-122 mission. It has been hand-signed by German ESA astronaut Hans Schlegel, a member of the STS-122 crew.
STS-122 was one of the most important European spaceflight missions of the Space Shuttle era. Launched in February 2008, the mission delivered the Columbus laboratory to the International Space Station, marking a major milestone for the European Space Agency and Europe’s permanent presence in human spaceflight. Columbus became ESA’s primary research module on the ISS, providing European scientists with a long-term orbital laboratory for experiments in life sciences, fluid physics, materials science, and technology development.
Hans Schlegel served as a Mission Specialist on STS-122 and participated in the mission’s spacewalk activities supporting the installation and activation of Columbus. His signature adds direct astronaut provenance to this flown commemorative piece, linking it personally to one of Germany’s most prominent space travelers and to Europe’s landmark contribution to the ISS.
Flown mission memorabilia from STS-122 is especially desirable due to the historic importance of Columbus as Europe’s first permanent laboratory in orbit. This limited-edition EADS-issued sticker, officially flown on the mission and signed by Hans Schlegel, represents an attractive and compact artifact from a defining moment in European space exploration.
