Gemini 8 - Neil Armstrong and David Scott

Heatshield material mounted on a 7x9'' rigid foam board certified on the backside.

3 months after Gemini 6 and 7 the Gemini 8 spacecraft with the two astronauts Armstrong and Scott was launched to perfrom a docking with an unmanned "Agena target vehicle" lauched one and a half hour earlier. After five orbits Gemini 8 and the Agena flew in formation for half an hour before docking. For another half an hour the two spacecraft flew together, before the astronauts realized that they were rolling faster and faster. Neil Armstrong remained calm and slowly regained control of the spacecraft after undocking from the Agena and using the thrusters of the reentry. Mission Control in Houston told the crew to end the mission earlier than planned and return to Earth.

for their work in the space program.

This edition is limited to 50 presentations only.

Please note : Due to the nature of the source artifact each presentation differs slightly in color and shape.
