Gemini 7 - first US rendezvous in space flight - Frank Borman and James Lovell
Heatshield material mounted on a 7x9'' rigid foam board certified on the backside.
Gemini 7 was the fourth crewed flight of NASA's Gemini program with astronauts Frank Borman and Jim Lovell on a 14 day mission in low Earth orbit. Mission goals were the first 2-week flight, to perform docking with Gemini 6A and to evaluate the new lightweight pressure suit. The crew members also performed 19 different experiments.
The source of this heatshield fragment was a larger block of heatshield encased into lucite as a presentation piece given to VIP's and NASA workers as recognition
for their work in the space program.
