
Gemini 3 flown heatshield

Heatshield material mounted on a 7x9'' rigid foam board certified on the backside.
Gemini 3 was the first manned Gemini mission piloted by Gus Grissom making his second spaceflight along with newbee John Young. Launched march 23rd 1965 the Gemini capsule proved to be working fine during the almost 5-hour orbital flight.
The source of this heatshield fragment was a larger block of heatshield encased into lucite as a presentation piece given to VIP's and NASA workers as recognition
for their work in the space program.
