STS-122 FLOWN Casio MDV 102 "Marlin" watch – ex-STS-122 astronaut Hans Schlegel
Astronaut watches (related, used, worn, and FLOWN in space) became the pinnacle of watch collecting in recent years culminating in the sale of a golden (unflown) Omega Speedmaster that once belonged to Mercury astronaut Wally Schirra that sold in October 2022 at a breathtaking $1,906,954 (incl. buyers premium) in RR auctions /USA.
While there are a few flown-in space watches from the Russian space program on the market and sold up to 6-digit figures in auctions already, those from the US program are a dozen times rarer and almost never available due to all sorts of restrictions.
All flown Omega (with 1-2 exceptions) from the Apollo program belong to the Smithsonian and will never be available. Flown watches from the Space Shuttle program surface from time to time realizing between $5000 (simple $5 watch) and $55000 (for an Omega X-33 of a European astronaut worn in the Space Shuttle).
If you ask an astronaut (or cosmonaut) however they will tell you that their most beloved watches - because easy to use! - are actually simple Casio watches they wear all day in space, the simpler the better!
Here's your chance to own a FLOWN Casio MDV 102 "Marlin" watch carried into space aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis with STS-122 by ESA astronaut Hans Schlegel - directly from his personal collection! Comes with a hologram certificate of authenticity.
The watch still has the NASA-issued orange sticker "SG122" attached to the back that was applied by NASA as part of Schlegel's PPK. The original manual comes with the watch, no box or papers were kept by Hans Schlegel.
The watch is fully working and just received a battery replacement. This is not a cheap Casio watch, but retails at $500 making this a high-quality watch - perfect to wear every day! The diameter is about 42mm.
Keep in mind: The watch market may have dropped a bit lately for those expensive watches produced in the 10,000s....but there will be only a very few Shuttle-flown watches impossible to reproduce or re-issue!
